In this contents page taken from ‘We Love Pop’ the colour schemed used is a bright orange and sky blue, these colours are fresh, bright and bold reflecting the youthful readership. By using these bold and bright colours are throughout each issue of ‘We Love Pop’ it contributes to a sense of brand identity.
‘We love pop’ maintain their brand identity by using their logo on the contents page in the right hand corner of the page, moreover the font used for each title and the main body of text remains the same throughout the magazine helping to establish a signature look. The main title used for the contents page is ‘We love this’ rephrasing the name of the magazine to the contents title of the magazine. This is the largest piece of text and is in a bold font, as it sets the tone of what the page entitles.
Each issue the editor of ‘We Love Pop’ writes a letter addressing the readers talking about the making of that particular issue, it is worded in a using friendly conversational tone using direct address towards the reader making the reader feel personally involved in the magazine, the editors signature is even added at the end to make the letter feel more realistic.
A puff is used in the left hand corner stating ‘For your eyes only’ this makes the information given in the magazine seem exclusive and secret between the reader and ‘We love pop’. ‘We love pop’ acts like a gossiping friend infilling the reader on all they juicy details.
The main image used in this contents page of ‘We love pop’ is of One Direction, linking to the interview with the new band inside. One Direction will appeal to the target audience as they are one of the T.A’s ‘Boy crushes’ one of the T.A’s key interests. The T.A would have become first familiar with One Direction through the hit talent show The X factor which scouts for the latest pop sensation. Runner’s up One Direction were a huge hit with teenage girls who make up the majority of the audience who tune into the X Factor and read ‘We love pop’. There are hundreds of twitter accounts and blogs written by teenage girls dedicated to the boy band. The feature next to the main feature photo states “I’d pose naked for about a hundred quid!” is a quotation taken from the interview with the One Direction boys reflecting their cheeky rebellious and care free attitude this will lure in the target audience and leave them wanting to read on. Furthermore the feature continues ‘Save your pocket money! One direction arent pricey’ this sell line is important as it makes the sell line relevant to the readership the language used is informal creating a conversational tone between the magazine and the reader. The page number of the interview has been placed over the image making it easy for the reader to navigate through the magazine to find the main features.
Other related images used to help the T.A find the main features of the issue include the image of Taylor Lautner reflecting one of the T.A’s interest of boys. Taylor Lautner is an actor famously known for his role in “Twilight” the dark teenage love story of a girl who falls in love with a vampire. Taylor Lautner has huge fan base for his character of Jacob, with many teenage girls declaring they are ‘Team Jacob’. The feature of “I can’t believe I just said that…Taylor Lautner reveals all” pulls the audience in by leaving them on a cliff hanger and implying that he reveals a secret within the interview.
Another related image used is of The Saturdays Una and Vanessa. The T.A will be attracted to this image as the girls act as role models for the T.A. with a huge fan base made up mainly of teenage girls from the UK. The T.A aspire to be like them as they are presented as bubbly, glamorous and talented. The sell line “We look like condoms Una and Vanessa take on our dreaded carrier bag” attracts the T.A as they will want to read on to find out what ‘We Love Pop’ asked The Saturday girls to do.
Furthermore the contents page features a text box with the sub-heading of ‘Inside this month’ listing all other features within the magazine and the page numbers. This simple layout makes it easy for the reader to find the main features of the magazine and look for any other features.
